Generator Installation

Emergency Power Solutions has over 15 years of experience with generator installation and maintenance, and this knowledge has led us to develop an efficient and professional installation process for your home or business.

Installation typically begins with location scouting – finding an ideal location as near as possible to a gas or electric meter.  The generator must also be placed at least 18” from the building, and 5’ away from any windows.  (Even with these addressed concerns, manufacturers always recommend placing a carbon monoxide detector at a building location closest to the generator outside.)

Electric connections usually are an outside-only task, though depending on the type of installation, there may be a need for internal electrical installation.  The generator connects through a transfer switch and electrical utility meter, both of which can be placed in various locations.

Natural gas is generally installed outside along the outside wall of a building, or buried underground.  In some instances, it is necessary to run gas piping through the building to the generator.

Generator Maintenance

Regardless of use, preventative maintenance should be performed annually on any generator system to insure proper functionality should the need arise during a power failure.  All too often, we encounter customers who have neglected routine maintenance and find themselves at a loss when their generator fails during a power outage.  Simple matters, such as low oil levels, battery age, battery charger, or even a loose connection can be the cause.  Each situation could have been avoided by a simple inspection by a factory trained technician.

Depending on how well you maintain your generator, coupled with the amount of use, a generator can last up to 20 years or more.

The cost of maintaining your unit depends on your choice of maintenance program and what specific service is required. Residential maintenance can be as little as $95 plus necessary parts for minor servicing, or marginally more for a full maintenance cycle. Travel is included up to 15 miles from our location – please inquire if you are located out of zone.

Electrical Work

Since 2002, Emergency Power Solutions has employed certified electricians to assist in all installation and maintenance tasks. As we are professionals, we have ensured all technicians and the company as a whole to be licensed, bonded, and insured for all types of electrical repairs and services.

In some instances, our electricians identify wiring issues (incorrect initial installation or code violations) before the installation of a standby generator system.  When faced with such a situation, our licensed electricians will advise the customer on any and all options to bring the wiring back to code.

Though we handle generator-related electrical concerns, our staff of electricians are available for all types of other electrical needs, such as: replacing a receptacle, lighting additions, service upgrades, new construction wiring, electronic device installation, and adding a whole house/business surge protector.
